Rick Petersen resides on the Sunshine Coast of Queensland with his wife Neryl and his 2 sons Arnhem and Tasman.

Rick has lead an interesting and varied past. Born the son of a Lighthouse Keeper on the rugged South East Coast of Tasmania,Tasman Island, where he spent the first 3 years of his life before the family moved to the west coast of Tasmania, his dad working underground in the mines of Roseberry.

When the wheels fell off the family kart at the age of 6, due to alcohol related issues, Rick, along with his brothers and sisters became a wards of the state, moving through numerous foster homes and living a disrupted childhood.

Rick left school at 14, to work in a local horticultural nursery. Never feeling a true sense of purpose or belonging he joined the Military at 17, serving in the Australian Regular Army for 11 years, 9 of those with the Australian SAS Regiment.

Leaving full time service in 1994 Rick went on to conduct remote 4×4 tours through Kakadu and Arnhem Land, in the Top End, for close to 10 years, building a strong connection and bond with the local aboriginal people and the land on which he guided.

Sharing this passion with his 2 sons was a natural extension of his life. Together Rick and his family have traveled and experienced many of Australia’s iconic landmarks and hidden treasures.

Rick now dedicates much of his time working with fathers and sons, sharing his deep respect for the land, his passion for Bush Craft and Survival and “building strong relationships between father and son through the spirit of adventure and the willingness to participate in life, based on mutual respect, empathy and honesty“.
